Text description provided by the architects. BmesR29 Arquitects was asked by a retirement home in La Bordeta Spain to design an addition onto the existing ground floor of this residential building block. The voluminous addition, including the new large multipurpose room, takes on an airy feeling with spaces that flows nicely to the original building.
Sofía Gómez Zúcar
The expanded volume unfolds like a big box rotated that shapes the lighting and creates indoor privacy through contrasting elements. It tries to be distinctly different from the surrounding environment in order to clearly delineate between the complex coexisting functions i.e. the special needs school toward the rear of the site.
This new expansion also includes bathrooms, changing rooms, storage of material, and a large room that can be divided into several smaller ones. This new great room has allowed the retirement home to restructure their original spaces into new zones for workshop room, activity rooms and serving rooms.
